Antique polychrome tin-glazed figure jug – Seated lady in traditional dress – 18th/19th century – 31 cm
Very charming and rare faience figure jug in the form of a seated woman in traditional costume. The woman wears a green striped cap, a white dress richly decorated with colorful floral motifs in red, blue, yellow and green, a yellow-bordered apron and a striped lower edge. She sits with her hands in her lap and has an expressive, friendly face with red lips.
The jug is fitted with an original hinged pewter (tin) lid with a hinge and a thumb knob. The lid is broken and glued with yellow glue (see detailed photos). The lid still fits the jug and the hinge remains intact.
Dimensions: height 31 cm (including the lid)
Condition: Fair, with clear signs of age and wear. The ceramic itself is intact, without major chips or cracks. The tin lid is however broken and amateurishly glued. Normal glaze crazing and wear present. All defects are clearly visible in the photos.
Origin: European faience, presumably late 18th to 19th century (possibly North France, Rouen-style or similar continental production).
This is an authentic and decorative antique item for enthusiasts of faience, character jugs, Toby jugs, or historical folk-art pottery. Despite the restoration to the lid, it remains a striking and charming piece that fits beautifully in a display cabinet or country-style interior.
Important: Please study all photos carefully, including the close-up of the glued lid, for an accurate impression of the condition. The lid could be neatly restored by a professional restorer if desired.
