Miniature ceramic crater from Graeco‑Hellenistic Greece, mid‑4th century BCE, with black glaze, standing on a pronounced ring foot, 7.5 cm high and 12.3 cm wide, in Very good + condition with a small restoration on the lip.
Description from the seller
Small two-handled miniature crater
Great Greece, mid-4th century BCE.
Wheel-thrown ceramic with black glaze, resting on a clearly marked annular foot, with a reserved base revealing the orange hue of the clay.
Deep vessel with a slightly flared wall, underscored at the base by a slight molded shoulder.
Lip subtly flared, currently partially restored, with small losses visible at the rim.
Two horizontal symmetric handles, rounded in cross-section, attached beneath the lip, adopting an elegantly curved form with ends slightly turned up.
Surface covered with a homogeneous black glaze, showing in places fine wear and brownish nuances characteristic of Italiote productions of the 4th century BCE.
This is a miniature version of a crater, probably intended for votive, domestic, or funerary use, faithfully reproducing the forms of the large mixing vases.
Condition:
Very good overall condition.
Small restoration visible on the rim edge.
Surface glaze wear consistent with age.

Height: 7.5 cm
