Italian ceramic sculpture titled Mamma con cuccioli, depicting a mother leopard with two cubs, in Hollywood Regency vintage style from the 60s–70s, 60 cm wide, 60 cm deep, and 30 cm high, signed and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This ceramic sculpture is a classic example of artistic craftsmanship (of the Italian school) depicting a mother leopard with her two cubs.
Here is a detailed description of the work:
Composition and Pose
The scene is loaded with tenderness and dynamism. The mother is depicted lying down, with an elongated body serving as a protective "base" for the little ones.
The cub on the left is curled against the mother's shoulder, with its snout slightly tilted upward and a curious expression.
The cub on the right is in a more active, almost playful pose, with a front paw resting on the mother's back as if trying to climb or attract her attention.
The mother has a proud and vigilant gaze; her head is slightly raised and turned toward the viewer, conveying a sense of calm protective vigilance.
Details and Colors
The work is distinguished by a stylized realism, typical of mid-20th-century decorative ceramics:
Coat: The base is cream/ivory white, enriched by warm orange and ochre shades that fade toward the lighter belly. The spots (rosettes) are hand-painted with a rich black, distributed with precision to follow the animals' anatomy.
Look: The eyes are particularly expressive, rendered in a bright green hue with well-defined black pupils, giving life and depth to the gaze of the three felines.
Finish: The surface is fully glazed and glossy, creating strong light reflections (visible in the photos) that enhance the curves and musculature of the animals.
Technical Aspects
Material: Ceramic
Style: Hollywood Regency / Vintage 1960s-1970s. These large animal figures were central pieces in the luxury furniture of the era.
Conditions: From the images, the piece is in excellent condition, with the glaze's shine intact and the facial details (black noses, hint of mouths) very well defined.
