Original Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) sign made of iron, Italy, circa 1950–1960, model “Posto di soccorso”, 60 cm high × 50 cm wide × 1 cm deep, boxed, in excellent vintage condition with slight signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Rare FS railway sign 'Posto di soccorso' - embossed and boxed - 1950s
Description of the Object
Splendid authentic specimen of signaling from the Italian State Railways (FS), dating from the 1950s. It is a directional sign indicating the 'Posto di Soccorso' (Rescue Point), originally placed in large railway yards or vintage mechanical workshops.
The object stands out for its very high build quality:
Technique: Enamelled iron sheet with raised lettering and ornaments (embossed). This technique allowed readability even in low visibility conditions.
Design: It features the historic FS logo of the 'Winged Wheel' with the Red Cross and a directional arrow to the right. The font is the classic condensed sans-serif used in the Italian rationalist period.
Structure: 'Boxed' model with 90° folded edges, which gives the sign notable thickness and robustness, making it a visually striking decorative piece.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The piece has been gently cleaned while preserving its original patina. It shows slight signs of aging on the edges and corners that certify its authenticity and historical use in the field.
An essential piece for railway heritage collectors or for lovers of industrial design and Italian mid-century modernism.
Note: as shown in the photo, the sign is slightly curved but easily straightened.
