Description from the seller
Jan van Oort (1921 - 2006) designed during World War II the comic character Paulus the Boskabouter whose adventures from 1946 were published in Het Vrije Volk. Van Oort called himself "Jean Dulieu" (French translation of "Jan van Oort").
Besides the 8,000 newspaper publications, Paulus appeared in color in a large number of magazines and children's books (translated and released in many countries). The watercolors that Dulieu made for this are each a small work of art.
Dulieu was a jack-of-all-trades, a versatile and virtuoso artist whose skill and talent kept pace with his pursuit of perfection. Jean Dulieu received many prizes for his work and is counted among the "Big Three": Marten Toonder, Hans G. Kresse and Jean Dulieu.

Ultimately, between 1946 and 1984, with interruptions, around 8,000 daily strips would be produced. This lot contains a wonderful large sheet of sketches with various pen drawings, for one of the planned publications of Paulus the Boskabouter. Have a look at the action, the virtuosity in the drawing and the very refined linework. Dulieu was unique with such refined linework. Finer and virtuosic with pen. The mimicry, the composition....., only the greatest can achieve this. The large sketch sheet is signed by Jean Dulieu.
The drawing will be securely packed and sent to the new owner by registered mail.
