This artwork is a traditional Chinese ink-and-bamboo painting, known as 'Ink Bamboo'.
Attributed to Zheng Xie (also known as Zheng Banqiao).
The work is attributed to Zheng Xie (also known as Zheng Banqiao), a famous painter and calligrapher from the Qing Dynasty. It is a prime example of the 'Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics', known for combining bamboo painting with expressive calligraphy. Bamboo paintings in this style symbolize virtues such as flexibility, modesty, and perseverance. The work uses variations in ink density (washed ink) to create depth and mist-like effects.
The inscription on the painting includes a poem and the artist's signature.
Poem: "Bamboo and rock stand together in harmony. The crowd of plants and flowers is in vain. Spring, summer, and autumn cannot change them. Only the elegant plum tree possesses greater virtue."
