Plate - Delftware - Bird and floral decor
Antique Delftware plate (faience) from the Netherlands, hand-painted in blue and white with Chinese-inspired motifs with bird and flowers. Made of tin-glazed faience, which was a European imitation of Chinese porcelain. This plate is believed to have been made in the Netherlands between 1740-1790. Has chips, as seen in the photos, and several small chips all the way around the edge. Also a spot of missing glaze on the backside. Faience plates from this period often have defects. They have been used extensively and are very brittle in the material. Traces of use can also have a certain charm, right?
