Circa 1880, 18x23 cm.
"Mauresque", a very beautiful portrait from the late nineteenth century (Egypt), attributed to Jean Garrigues.
Very fine albumen print from the period in very good condition, mounted on a cardboard backing.
Excellent preservation of contrasts, gray nuances, and levels of detail.
Jean Garrigues was active in Tunisia at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, in a context of photographic growth linked to the protectorate and the development of tourism. Photographer and publisher, he produced urban views, scenes of daily life, and portraits distributed as prints and postcards.
His work is characterized by clear light and a straightforward composition, attentive to architecture, markets, and local people, through a production that is both documentary and commercial.
It will be shipped with its sleeve and its cardboard backing on neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good condition).
