Walnut and maple fall-front writing desk dating from 1850–1900, Italian-made, with two large lower drawers and a hinged writing surface, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
The item shown is a fall-front desk, an antique piece with a hinged top that lowers to create a writing surface. It is likely to date from the 19th century, as suggested by visual research of similar objects.
Main features
Typology: fall-front desk, a classic piece often used as a domestic desk or secretary.
Material: solid walnut wood, probably, with inlays in different woods, such as maple, visible on the top and on the drawers.
Style: The style and the tapered and turned legs suggest influence from the Louis XVI or Directory period.
Details: It features two large drawers at the bottom and, inside the fall-front compartment (scarabattolo)
Conditions: The condition of the piece is impeccable (in first patina and finish). The market value of these antique pieces varies greatly depending on the exact era, provenance, condition, and the quality of the inlay; this one, Italian mid-19th century, is a piece of rare beauty, given the quality of the maple inlays and representing great Italian cabinetry. Shipping is tracked and insured.
