Voodoo is the cultural foundation of the Adja peoples (including the Fons, the Gouns, the Ewe… and to some extent the Yoruba…)—peoples who constitute an important part of the populations south of the Gulf of Benin states (Benin, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria...).
