Description from the seller
A carved marble statuette of a female, most likely the goddess Persephone (known in the Roman pantheon as Proserpina), clothed in a peplos, standing barefoot on a rectangular base; the garment gathered at the waist and the upper portion held in the hands and spread at the hips, head absent.

Provenance: with londoner auction house, ex property of an British gentleman; acquired on the French market, 1970s; formerly from a collection formed between 1930 and 1940s
