Description from the seller
Chair 4875 was designed in 1970 and produced from 1974 by Carlo Bartoli for Kartell, and is considered the first chair in the world with an injection-molded polypropylene seat. Nominated for the Compasso d’Oro in 1979, it is part of the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Kartell Museum in Milan. It is one of the early examples where plastic stops being a 'poor material' and becomes the protagonist of design. It is a single-shell seat-back unit; it features four separate legs that are press-fitted (or pinned). The circular cross-section of the legs provides greater stability. The internal structure has double-perimeter reinforcements and the curved backrest is ergonomic and enveloping. The rear legs rise into the backrest, creating a sort of structural 'spine'. The material is color-massed polypropylene, impact resistant, weather resistant, and suitable for outdoor use as well; you can use it in the kitchen, garden, or bar without too much hassle. The soft, continuous lines, uninterrupted and flowing, confirm the Space Age style of the '70s.
