Description from the seller
Antique Set of Hand Files – C. Oöberg & Co., Eskilstuna, Sweden – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Description:
A rare and charming lot of antique hand files, made by C. Oöberg & Co. of Eskilstuna, Sweden — one of the most respected Scandinavian toolmakers of the 19th century. Eskilstuna was known as the “Sheffield of Sweden” for its exceptional steel craftsmanship.
The lot includes approximately 10 files of assorted shapes: triangular (3-sided, pointed tip), flat, and round/tapered profiles — several retaining their original turned wooden handles. They come in their original cardboard box, which is worn but intact, bearing the manufacturer’s printed label with a fine engraving of the Oöberg factory. The label reads: “1 dussin 7” — 3 Kant Spets Sågfilar — Made in Sweden” (one dozen 7-inch triangular pointed saw files). Internal reference number: 3080.
These files were professional-grade tools intended for sharpening hand saws and other metalwork tasks. Today they represent a wonderful piece of Scandinavian industrial heritage, appreciated by tool collectors, craftsmen, and lovers of antique workshop objects.
Condition: Age-consistent patina and surface rust on the steel; some files retain their wooden handles in good condition. Original box present, worn with use and age. All items are sold as found, as a single lot.
