Description from the seller
Europe, late 19th – early 20th century
Elegant tea service in silvered metal, richly decorated with repoussé and chasing, with stylized vegetal motifs and acanthus scrolls; attributable to European production from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
The lot consists of three pieces:
kettle with hinged lid
sugar bowl with lid
creamer
Bodies of domed, articulated form, punctuated by vertical ribs and panels adorned with raised foliage, executed with good craftsmanship. Profiles are enriched with undulating rims and light moldings.
The teapot features a shaped spout and a richly worked handle with a sinuous curve, while the hinged lid is decorated in continuity with the body and topped by a molded finial.
The sugar bowl, equipped with side handles, retains a gilded interior (vermeil) with the typical shell-shaped curvature.
The creamer, also with a gilded interior, has a pouring spout and harmonious proportions, coherent with the rest of the service.
The gilded interiors (vermeil) are functional for their use, in addition to providing a refined chromatic contrast with the outside silvered surface.
Condition: excellent
Normal signs of use are noted, with light oxidations and scattered micro-scratches. The creamer shows slight marks and imperfections consistent with use. Interior gilding with localized wear.
Period: late 19th – early 20th century
Materials: silvered metal; gilded interiors (vermeil)
Technique: repoussé and chasing
Note: a decorative set with pleasant aesthetic impact, representative of late Victorian ornamental production with naturalistic taste.
