Description from the seller

TIP: Follow this seller for more lithophane items I will be offering in the near future on Catawiki.

All top items offered by me come from my own extensive private collection of antiques that I have gathered over 40 years.
Note, sold without a minimum price (No reserve price!)

Offered from my extensive private collection of lithophane items.
# Antique brass with copper tealite holder with 4 lithophane images featuring various landscapes.
The lithophane is intact and has no cracks or breaks. It is marked Germany 25 and a kind of manufacturer stamp.
# The tea light holder is cosmetically in very good condition, complete with the original burner.
If you unscrew the top of the burner, a large wax candle will fit perfectly (works perfectly!), more is not needed to enjoy the lithophane images.
Of course you can also have an electric light installed yourself.

Lithophanes are very fragile and are therefore also very rare. This item will be packed very professionally by me at sale, with each part packed separately.

Lithophanes were developed in the Biedermeier period 1815-1850. We are talking about an item of almost 200 years old here.
Lithophanes have various names for the same subject.
In the Netherlands they are called translucent pictures. In Germany Lithophanien. France = lithophanies, English = lithophanes.
Lithophanes became especially popular in the mid-19th century, produced by companies such as Wedgwood in England, Meissen in Dresden, and P.P.M. in Prussia.
A Lithophanie is a thin ceramic tile with relief, varying in thickness from 1.5 to 4 mm. The porcelain is fired twice at a temperature of 1250 degrees C.
Under normal lighting there is hardly any image to see, but if light is placed behind, a particularly beautiful three-dimensional image emerges.

We have worldwide experience in shipping antiques and curios.
Your item will be packed with extreme care in recyclable packaging and will be sent by registered and insured mail.
