Metal, wood, the eyes seem to be bone
Height: 205mm + base 64mm

Small reliquary head.
The Kota people mainly live in the east of Gabon and in the west of the Congo.
Many Kota reliquary figures exist. They have in common the characteristics of a face made from sheets of metal plated onto a wooden core and a handle in the shape of a diamond.
The reliquary baskets or "bwété" were kept at the back of the chief's hut. The "bwété" were venerated by offerings and prayers whose aim was to bring prosperity to the clan. At the top of the "bwété" was placed a reliquary statue with a body highly stylized in a diamond shape and a head covered with metal.
Personal collection.
The items are shipped insured with a tracking number.
