“HIS AIRNESS” – fotello
With HIS AIRNESS, the Italian artist fotello pays homage to the
basketball legend Michael Jordan, transforming an iconic athletic gesture
into a visual explosion of energy and style. The work captures the suspended
moment of flight—that fraction of a second when the body defies gravity—reproducing it with image quality extraordinarily sharp, almost photographic in the definition of form, yet at the same time deeply painterly in its execution.
The figure emerges with sculptural power from a layered urban background, where textures inspired by printed paper and worn surfaces dialogue with a contemporary visual language. The contrast between the white of the Chicago Bulls jersey and the intensity of the black shaping the body amplifies three-dimensionality, while the rendering of details—from the folds of the fabric to the muscle tension—gives the image a living, almost tangible presence.
Fotello’s distinctive style manifests in the bold use of color: splashes, drips and graffiti marks erupt on the scene with dynamic force. Bright reds, vibrant yellows, electric blues and touches of orange intertwine in a chaotic yet perfectly orchestrated composition, evoking street art aesthetics and metropolitan energy. These color interventions are not mere decorations but amplify movement, following and accentuating the trajectory of the leap, as if the air itself were threaded with color impulses.
In HIS AIRNESS, the precision of the image and the instinct of painterly gesture coexist in perfect harmony. Fotello does not merely depict an icon: he distills its essence, celebrating the fusion of technique, power and grace. The result is a work that transcends the sports portrait to become a visual symbol of elevation, freedom and legend.
fotello (Carrara, 1981) is a contemporary artist working between painting and digital art.
Raised in a family environment strongly tied to artistic tradition—the grandmother was the artistic director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara—he has developed from childhood a deep sensitivity to the visual arts.
After studying in the artistic field, from 2001 he began a personal research that blends painting techniques and digital tools, establishing himself as an author recognizable for his style and ability to fuse tradition and innovation. His digital works, signed under the pseudonym fotello, explore the boundaries between imagination and technology, always keeping the human and creative element central.
Parallel to this he pursues modern painting, with particular attention to abstraction, understood as a language capable of evoking emotions and meanings not immediately decipherable.
His works, both painted and digital, are in private collections in Italy and in several European countries.
