Description from the seller
“Barr gravity electric clock” – under a glass dome
A particularly charming and authentic clock with a nostalgic look. This specimen comes from private import from the United States.
From 1926, this type of clock appeared on the market. After a production stoppage at Poole, they were reintroduced from 1937 under the Barr name, with a renewed range of models.
What is special about these clocks is the ingenious drive principle: the pendulum directly drives the gear train and thus the hands. To keep the pendulum in motion, a fall alarm is present. When the swing excursion becomes too small, the fall alarm mechanism activates according to the Hipp-toggle principle. The fall alarm then delivers an impulse, causing the pendulum to swing with a larger amplitude. This happens about every 20 seconds. While falling, the fall alarm closes an electric contact, after which an anchor mechanism lifts the arm again.
This Barr clock offered here sits under a glass dome, allowing the handsome movement to be fully visible. The serial number 30582 dates the clock to before 1940. The whole thing has a warm, classical appearance.
The movement has been completely ultrasonically cleaned, adjusted, and tested for good running. The case has been cleaned and washed. You are acquiring a handsome and reliably running clock for your home that you will enjoy for many years to come.
