Description from the seller

The icon shows the beheading of John the Baptist. The Greek inscription above the scene reads: “Ο Αποκεφαλισμός του Προδρόμου” (“The Beheading of the Forerunner”). It depicts the executioner, Salome with the dish, and the beheaded John with a halo in front of an architectural background. The dating is unknown. The icon was intended for private devotional use, as indicated by the rear hanging with wire and nails. The work shows extensive wear and losses; the paint layer is partially heavily thinned.
