Description from the seller
Elegant blue and white porcelain saucer – China, Imperial era (likely Qing Dynasty, 19th century)
Refined hard-paste porcelain saucer decorated underglaze cobalt blue, expression of the great Chinese ceramic tradition, rooted in late Ming models and reaching full maturity during the Qing dynasty.
The handle is finely ornamented with a stylized floral motif of sinuously radiating spurts, developed around a central medallion, in line with ornamental tastes typical of productions destined for both domestic market and export. The rim features a continuous border with repeated motifs, executed with fluent and confident brushstrokes, echoing similar examples produced in the Jingdezhen kilns.
The back, left in milky white glaze, bears a blue underglaze seal mark painted in blue under glaze within a square cartouche, of antique taste, presumably inspired by reign marks but serving decorative and commercial purposes, a common practice in the 19th century. The base shows an unglazed foot ring, with natural firing marks and slight wear compatible with its age.
Features:
• Material: porcelain
• Technique: underglaze blue on footed (blue underglaze)
• Provenance: China
• Era: 19th century (Qing dynasty)
• Condition: good, with normal signs of age and use; slight impurities and small firing imperfections typical of production of the period
A piece of great elegance and sober refinement, ideal for Oriental ceramic collectors or as a decorative element, perfectly in line with the tradition of small service or export dishes that spread widely between Europe and Asia in the course of the 19th century.
An authentic piece that testifies to the continuity of classical porcelain models in Chinese porcelain and their adaptation to international taste.
Fast and well-executed shipping with appropriate and safe materials
