Polychrome Eluba Buhabo mask of the antelope type, Bembe mask, in a small region called Goma, near Lake Tanganyika. The mask was worn as a frontal mask with the face hidden by a veil of plant fibers and feathers.
The name Buhabo means a society of responsible men. The mask has many functions; it prevents foreign families from invading their territory, it is also an association of sorcerers who share their goods (including wives) to impose an ethic of solidarity. The mask is used in initiation rituals to invoke and celebrate the spirits who presided over the initiation.

Masque polychrome Eluba Buhabo du genre antilope, masque Bembe, dans un petit region dit Goma, à côté de lac Tanganyika. Masque était porté comme masque frontal avec le visage caché par un voile de fibres végétales et des plumes.
Le nom Buhabo signifie société d'hommes responsables. Le masque à de nombreux fonctions, il empêche les familles étrangères d'envahir leur territoire, c'est aussi une association de sorciers qui partagent leurs biens (y compris les épouses) pour imposer une éthique de solidarité. Le masque est utilisé dans les rutuels d'initiation pour invoquer et célébrer les esprits qui ont présidé l'initiation.
