Description from the seller
Represented as a bird with human head and wearing a black wig. Originally may have been attached to the top of a wooden sepulchral tablet or shrine, or perhaps the corners of a wooden outer box enclosing the coffin.
The face, which represents that of the deceased, is a dark yellow with facial details in black and red. The deep-cut body has nicely decorated wings with black and red roundels and vertical lines and dots in blue and red on a yellow background simulating feathers. A necklace to the front in blue and yellow, and red frontal body. Feet now missing. Exquisite.
Size: 11 cm H - 4 5/16 inches
Material: Wood
Culture: Egypt, c. 1000-800 B.C.
Condition: Feet missing, otherwise intact
Display stand included
Provenance: London private collection, acquired prior to 2000.
