Description from the seller

Significant sculpture of the early Baroque – 17th–18th century – Museum fragment with original frame & wrought iron
What is offered is an impressive, sacred wooden sculpture from the 17th century (approx. 1640–1680). It is a museum fragment of a saintly figure, notable for its powerful, almost archaic carving.
Special features:
Material & age: The wood shows extremely densely packed annual rings (see macro shot), indicating very slowly grown wood from the period of the "Little Ice Age" – a guarantee of authenticity and great age.
Wrought work: On the back there is the original, hand-forged mounting hook in square form. An important indicator of creation before 1700.
Fassung (frame): Remnants of the original paintwork (red and green tones) are present and show the typical aging over centuries.
Drapery: The drapery folds of the garment are typical for the transition from late Renaissance to Baroque.
Condition:
Consciously left in found state. The sculpture is fragmentarily preserved (hands/arms partly missing), which, however, gives it a special sculptural charm. The wood is substantively solid. An honest piece of sacred history.
Technical details
Era: 17th century (Early Baroque).
Material: Hardwood (probably oak or fruitwood, due to density).
Details: Hand-forged iron hook, original paint.
Origin: Southern Germany / Alpine region.
