Antique Dutch kussenspiegel (pillow mirror), often used as a shaving or brush cabinet in anterooms. The piece dates from the late 19th century or the first half of the 20th century and has characteristic Baroque or Neo-Baroque style features.
Key features
Material: Richly decorated, embossed brass or copper (so-called latoen koper) mounted on wood.
Design: In addition to the central faceted mirror, smaller mirror panels decorate the frame. The name "pillow mirror" refers to the convex, pillow-like shape of the frame.
Function: In fact, a small wall cabinet with the mirror itself as the door. Inside, there are hooks or shelves for keys, brushes or toiletries.
Decoration: An ornate "crown" (kuif) on top, depicting acanthus leaves and floral motifs.
