Description from the seller

Lega Statuette (DRC) – two-headed figure – Bwami tradition (attributed)

Rare and very beautiful sculpture attributed to the Lega, remarkable for its “multi-headed” treatment, a formal vocabulary well known in the Bwami universe. Here, the sculptor signs a work of rare intelligence: a main head, powerful and perfectly balanced, extended by a rear second head, like a Janus figure, and a third small effigy carried on the chest. This superposition of faces creates a reading that is both hieratic and deeply symbolic, evoking vigilance, knowledge, and authority.

The piece also captivates with its patina: dark, deep, sometimes gleaming, with beautiful worn areas and lighter highlights on the faces. The traces of handling and the remnants of bindings/pigments (notably around the neck and waist) reinforce the idea of an object that has been “lived,” integrated into use and history.

A sculpture of character, very “collection,” both classic in its Lega language and exceptional in its construction, ideal for a Central African enthusiast seeking a strong piece, immediately recognizable.

Presentation of our expert house:

Based in Belgium, our expertise and sales house has been assisting collectors and families for years, with a simple approach: seriousness, transparency and service. We enjoy a solid reputation among tribal art lovers and are among the reference sellers on Catawiki, where we count among the oldest traders (over 8 years).

We have appraised and insured the liquidation and dispersion of dozens of family collections, and sold thousands of objects in partnership with individuals, notaries, estates, inheritances and closure of collections. Our track record speaks for itself: several hundred evaluations close to 100% positive reviews, an indicator that outweighs any rhetoric about our commitment and reliability.

Pieces that have passed through our hands now feature in prestigious collections and, for some, have joined museum institutions — a guarantee of the quality and coherence of our selection throughout the year. We regularly offer reserve-price-free sales.

Express shipping: dispatch within 24 hours, insured, tracked, and with extremely careful and secure packaging.

Contact 7 days a week: we respond quickly and remain at your disposal to advise you and document the objects being offered for sale.
