Sewing box - Walnut - Walnut Sewing Table

Early 19th Century Walnut Sewing Table with Burr Veneer & Original Work Basket – Empire / Biedermeier Period Elegant early 19th century sewing table, crafted in solid wood and richly veneered with beautifully figured walnut burr veneer, showcasing a warm and lively grain pattern typical of the Empire to early Biedermeier period (circa 1820–1840). This refined and compact “ladies work table” stands on turned legs and features a hinged top revealing a well-preserved interior with multiple compartments for sewing tools, threads and accessories. The lid interior includes original holders for spools and tools, reflecting its authentic functionality. A particularly attractive feature is the original integrated work basket (silk well) beneath the table, used historically for storing fabrics, yarn or needlework in progress. This element is often missing, making this example more complete and desirable. Additionally, the table includes a separate front drawer, likely intended for finer items such as needles, small tools, or even personal valuables or money — a charming and practical detail typical of the period. The table is made from: Walnut burr veneer (top and exterior) – highly decorative with natural swirling patterns Solid wood structure – providing strength and stability Condition: good antique condition with signs of age and use. The top has been professionally stabilized and shows a historic repair consistent with its age, which blends naturally into the wood’s character. Origin Most likely Western Europe (France / Germany / The Netherlands), early 19th century. Use & styling Originally designed as a sewing and needlework table, this piece is now highly versatile: as a decorative side table in a hallway or bedroom as a unique storage piece It combines beautifully with natural materials and textiles and works particularly well styled with: a small plant or flowers vintage sewing items or books warm lighting for a classic interior atmosphere Dimensions Approx. 50 × 35 × 75 cm Note : die to vacation there will be no sending possible in the period of 14 April till 15th of may.
