Description from the seller
History and Company
The Ferrania Rondine is one of the most representative cameras of Italy's post-war industrial revival. Produced from 1948 by the famous Ferrania company (with plants in Milan and Ferrania, Savona), it was designed by engineer Ludovico D'Incerti. Ferrania is historically renowned for supplying film to the great directors of Italian Neorealism such as Pasolini, Fellini, and De Sica.
This model was not just a photographic instrument, but a true object of style: it was one of the first cameras in the world to be offered in different colors to match the era's outfits. The “Rondine” logo on the front was designed by D'Incerti himself.
Technical Details
• Model: Rondine (classic black finish).
• Year of production: circa 1948-1950.
• Country of production: Italy (Milan).
• Film format: Uses 127 film roll (produces 8 negatives of 4.5 x 6 cm).
• Lens: Ferrania Linear 7.5 (meniscus lens).
• Shutter: Two speeds selectable via lever: I (Instant, about 1/75s) and P (Bulb / Exposure B).
• Viewfinders: Dual framing option:
1. Upper waist-level (reflex) finder for high-angle shots.
2. Foldable 'galilean' finder for eye-level shots.
• Body: Made of cast aluminum (from the Milan-based SIME company) with a black faux-leather coating (sisal maroccan).
Condition of the Item for Sale
• Aesthetics: The camera presents itself in excellent vintage cosmetic condition. The black coating is intact and shows a beautiful texture. The metal parts retain their original shine.
• Mechanics: The shutter fires normally in both positions (I and P). The speed selector is smooth. The film advance knob rotates correctly.
• Interior: The interior is extremely clean (as visible in photos of the disassembled body). The camera opens easily for loading via the side knob, a typical and ingenious opening system for the era.
• Notes: The inscription "MADE IN ITALY" and "MODELLO DEPOSITATO" are present inside the film compartment. The upper folding viewfinder is present and functioning.
