Description from the seller
Elegant Antique Walking Cane with Deer Hoof Knob Handle
Splendid specimen of a collectible walking cane, dating from the late 19th century / early 20th century. An object that combines the charm of hunting tradition (taxidermy curiosity) with the elegance of an era-appropriate male accessory, probably German origin.
The knob consists of a real deer hoof (likely roe deer or chamois), meticulously preserved and mounted in an "eagle beak" pose to offer an ergonomic and distinctive grip. The lower part of the hoof reveals the natural split of the nail, preserved in excellent condition.
The shaft is connected to the handle by a refined metal ferrule, finely worked. It features a raised relief with diagonal geometric motifs that frame a central heraldic shield. The shield is engraved with a rampant figure (lion cub or dog), a detail that suggests possible noble lineage or prestigious personalization.
Fusto (Shaft): Made of dark, precious wood, characterized by a splendid natural patina that attests to its authenticity and long use. The wood is solid, straight and free of structural cracks.
Stile (Style): Classic European "Country/Hunting Style," typical of the aristocracy and the upper bourgeoisie who frequented hunting estates and exclusive clubs.
Condizioni (Condition):
The item presents in excellent preserved condition. The patina of time on metal and wood enhances its historic charm. No shortages or invasive restorations are reported; view the photographs for a better impression.
Ideal for:
- Walking cane collectors (baculometry).
- Lovers of Wunderkammer curios and antique taxidermy pieces.
- Furnishing professional offices, hunting lodges or historic residences.
- A piece of history and craftsmanship, ready to be displayed or used as a highly characterful accessory.
