Ewer
Canton porcelain
China, Guangdong Province
Qing Dynasty, late 19th century
36 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm
This ewer of generous size, with an elongated pear-shaped body, a tightened neck and an S-shaped spout, is fitted with a high arched handle. It belongs to the decorative repertoire known as "famille rose", typical of Cantonese workshops of the second half of the 19th century intended for both domestic market and export.
The decoration, extremely lush, combines a background adorned with emerald-green scrolling foliage, punctuated by pink flowers and butterflies, with polylobed reserves. These host figurative scenes of interior characters (young women, literati and attendants in pavilions), alternating with naturalistic medallions depicting birds, flowers and insects. The whole is executed in opaque enamels enhanced with gilding, according to a technique characteristic of Canton productions. The lip and some borders are outlined with a fine gold edge.
The base presents a wide unmarked annular foot, white glaze slightly satin, in keeping with utilitarian and decorative pieces of this period.
Condition: signs of wear and gilding rubbing. Good condition! Observed under UV.
Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection
Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
