Description from the seller
Before embracing the freedom of abstraction, my research paused on the forms of the female body, reinterpreting them. This series titled “Il Gesto dell'Anima” tells of women captured in intense poses, where each stance, sometimes exaggerated, is not only a shape but an inner vibration. I wanted to represent the truth of a moment: a gaze, a muscular tension, exposed fragility, pure volume and emotion.
Painting these figures, whose forms twist and compress, with limbs too large for the space that contains them, was a way to objectify a sense of emotional confinement: the marked lines and the tactile brushstrokes are scars of a tense dialogue with the material. The mood that guided me expresses a constant tension between being trapped in the flesh and the desire to melt into the air.
The Breath: A Gesture Between Light and Shadow
When I painted 'Il Respiro', I did not seek the calm of a light breath, but the force of a vital act that rends the silence of the soul. This work was born from the urgency to give body to that invisible instant in which the inside and the outside meet and clash.
I chose burning reds and intense yellows because they represent the warmth of blood, passion, but also that tension necessary to exist. They are the colors of the fire burning inside, of a vitality that accepts no compromise.
However, my breath must carve its way through the shadows. Those dark, almost black strokes that envelop the figure represent the weight of the world, the fears, or perhaps those aspects of my subconscious that seek to suffocate me. In this contrast, my painterly ‘gesture’ becomes a struggle for space: every stroke of the brush is a way to reclaim my right to expand, not to be overwhelmed.
It is the catharsis of a sigh that frees the chest.
It is the story of how the soul, through the simple and powerful gesture of breathing, manages to transform the chaos of shadows into a vibrant light.
