Description from the seller
Painting by Jan Sierhuis 21-12-1928 / 4-7-2023
Oil painting on canvas by Jan Sierhuis, purchased by my father in the 1970s/1980s at the "Stichting Beeldende Kunst" SBK in Amsterdam. The purchase price at the time was 1,500 guilders
Painting 50 cm x 60 cm, black wooden frame 52 cm x 62 cm
Signed in paint
Condition is good. There are some small damages to the black frame, probably due to the rough wood from which the frame is made.
From Wikipedia:
Jan Sierhuis was primarily an expressionist painter, inspired by, among others, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh and Picasso. In his early years he painted naturalistic landscapes. In the 1950s and 1960s he for a time worked almost exclusively in an abstract style. In the mid-1960s he moved from expressionism to a period focused mainly on human figures. Sierhuis shifted to more figurative themes, such as dancing figures, portraits and landscapes. He spent many summers in Spain.[4] His passion for flamenco influenced many of his works and led him to also work in three dimensions.
