Description from the seller
This is a very interesting vintage photograph taken by a photographer from the famous Farabola agency, based in Milan, in September 1963, in Vietnam, and one can see the "First Lady" Tran Le Xuan, wife of Ngo Dinh Nhu, brother of the president of Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem, and she was called "First Lady" since the president had been a bachelor all his life, and his sister-in-law was the most representative woman of the nation, and she was known, at home and abroad, as "Madame Nhu".
This image portrays Madame Nhu during a paramilitary drill in which her daughter also participated.
It is also interesting to note that two months after this photograph was taken, Madame Nhu's husband and the president's brother were killed during a coup, and the powerful woman emigrated to Europe where she resided until her death, which occurred in 2011 in Rome.
This photograph was published in December 1963 by a major Italian magazine in a report on the coup in Vietnam, which occurred exactly one month earlier.
The photograph measures 20.3 x 14.5 cm, representing something particular and rare both in terms of the "photographic history" of Vietnam and in terms of what may interest collectors and enthusiasts of the political events of that era.
This is a genuine vintage photograph, properly dated and stamped on the back both by the renowned Farabola agency and by the magazine that published the feature.
Excellent overall condition, a beautiful and rare photo in more than good condition.
