Medieval Islamic art. Near East, Persia , Nishapur, ca. 10/11th century CE. A large Nishapur slip-painted pottery bowl with bird and kufic design. Restored.
23.5 cm diameter.


The City of Nishapur was founded in the 3rd Century AD. By the 9th Century Nishapur had a population between 100 and 200 thousand people and had become an important economic centre due to its location on the Silk Route extending from China to the Mediterranean Sea.
