Description from the seller

Splendid double bed cover in pure damask cotton with artisanal loomwork piquet from the first half of the 1900s, entirely woven with damask embroidery and ton-sur-ton circles. A distinguishing feature is the upperside weave that sets it apart from usual printed or embroidered pieces, as the designs were woven within the fabric. The effect is magnificent. There are squares with a flower in the center and surrounding hieroglyphs.

The piquet weave is a process that creates fabrics with raised designs, obtained through a special weaving that uses a double warp or uplifted threads. By creating a relief structure through a two-warp weave, it gives thickness and a different look to the fabric. A bed cover that is all about weaving.

To embellish it, a straight 10 cm high band.

The bed cover without fringe measures 226 cm in width and 213 cm in length. Add 10 cm of straight fringe.

It is all one work, both in the central part and on the sides. Along the entire perimeter, 10 cm high, there are rhombuses.

In the center there is an oval stitching made on the inside which, given the white and the weaving, is hardly visible; on one side there are also 27 cm of fringe missing at the terminal part and in some areas the bed cover shows signs of age and use.

The fringe can be easily replaced by buying a trim or a straight fringe.

Looking closely at the photos you can see mending and missing fringe.

It has always been used with great beauty, with the utmost care, and shows no stains. These are details because when laid on a bed the embroidery and the weaving stand out. It shows the marks of time and use. The photos are more explanatory than words. It is part of my family’s linen set.

I have used it a lot precisely because of its workmanship.

For shipping I use private couriers rather than postal service because it arrives faster and communication is easier.

Costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, zone 1 or 2, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or Eastern European countries, or zone three such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and the rest of the world.

Customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
