Jan zelf over zijn werk “Aanvankelijk bestond mijn werk voornamelijk uit stads- en dorpsgezichten, boerderijen, stillevens en landschappen, veelal geschilderd in en rond Maassluis. Vanaf midden jaren ’60 bezocht ik Frankrijk, Oostenrijk, Italië en Spanje. Deze landen boden nieuwe inspiratie. In die tijd ben ik ook in acryl gaan werken.

Het liefst schilder ik direct in de natuur, om daarna in mijn atelier het werk af te maken. Later ben ik mij meer gaan toeleggen op het maken van abstracte materieschilderijen. Met acrylverf en medium, zand, gaas, touw en afvalmaterialen componeerde ik ze.
Ondertussen ben ik meer dan 90 jaar oud, schilder nog dagelijks met hart en ziel en koester de afwisseling van de technieken die ik mij eigen heb gemaakt. Dus aan de slag, want een dag niet geschilderd, is een dag niet geleefd!”
