Description from the seller
The MARIA sofa, by designer Anacleto Spazzapan, is a design piece made entirely by hand with a metal rod, plus the addition of a “joker” that represents the actual seat. The joker is also made from a metal rod and is subsequently covered in fabric and is removable. It is attached to the body of the seat with hooks.
Adaptable to all kinds of spaces thanks to a powder-coated finish that protects the iron from rusting, while the priming base consists of black zinc paint.
The execution technique, the so-called styles, is the “minimalist” one where the metal rod is used in a more orderly way, to reproduce only the essential part of the object.
ANACLETO SPAZZAPAN: Born in Luino in 1943, in recent years the designer/artist has revolutionized his life as an artisan, designer and dealer thanks to the discovery in Java, Indonesia, of an archaeological site he himself reported to the local authorities. To provide work for two unemployed welders in the area, the designer began to work on furnishings, taking on a personal challenge: to produce prototypes for daily use with a material that is fairly stubborn: the iron rod.
Thus true works of art come to life, which at first glance may seem light and delicate, but are, on the contrary, absolutely resistant, extremely functional, and decidedly up to date.
At the heart of each of his projects lies a concrete and mathematical approach. His projects indeed rely on the same logic used in mathematics, keeping in mind the concept of logic and mathematical progression; the core remains always the function of an object itself, beautified and lightened by a more playful aspect. A creative process linked to the concrete, pragmatic dimension of design, to what a product is rather than what it represents.
