Rarer Reservist Mug CENTAG NATO – Mannheim 1962 – St. Sgt. Messerschmidt – with Lithophane
Description:
For sale is a historic beer mug (reservist mug) from the Cold War era. A special keepsake of service with the CENTAG Signal Operations Battalion (NATO forces communications battalion).
Owner: St. Sgt. Horst M. Messerschmidt.
Location: Mannheim, Germany.
Dating: May 1962.
Details & Special Features:
Lithophane (basement image): At the bottom of the mug there is a translucent image (female motif) that becomes visible when held to the light.
Design: Elaborate decoration with flags (USA, Germany, France), the CENTAG coat of arms, and crossed communications flags.
Lid: Magnificent tin lid with an eagle figure.
Manufacturer: Kurt Stehr, Vereinsbedarf, Mannheim/Ettlingen (bottom mark present).
Condition: Good age-related condition. Nice patina, slight wear to the gilding (authentic signs of use of an original piece). No cracks or chips.
A must-have for militaria collectors, NATO history enthusiasts, or locally historical items from Mannheim.
