Original official FS sign 'Posto di soccorso', made of enameled iron sheet, boxed construction, dating to the 1950s, measuring 60 x 50 x 1 cm, with excellent vintage condition and slight signs of wear and age.
Description from the seller
Rare FS railway sign 'Posto di soccorso' - embossed and encased - 1950s
Object Description
Splendid authentic example of signage from the Italian State Railways (FS), dating from the 1950s. It is a directional board indicating the 'Posto di Soccorso' (Rescue Post), originally placed in large railway yards or period mechanical workshops.
The piece stands out for its exceptionally high build quality:
Technique: Enamelled baked-iron sheet with raised letters and relief embellishments (embossing). This technique allowed readability even in low visibility conditions.
Design: It features the historic FS logo of the 'Winged Wheel' with the Red Cross and a directional arrow to the right. The font is the classic condensed sans-serif of the Italian rationalist period.
Construction: 'Boxed' model with 90° folded edges, which gives the sign notable thickness and sturdiness, making it a striking decorative piece with high visual impact.
Condition: Excellent vintage conservation status. The piece has been gently cleaned while preserving its original patina. It shows slight signs of aging on the edges and corners that attest to its authenticity and historic field use.
An indispensable piece for railway heritage collectors or for enthusiasts of industrial design and Italian mid-century modernism.
