The Baloch are a nomadic ethnic group from the region of Balochistan, a district bordering Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Baloch carpets can be made on a foundation of cotton or wool, and goat or horsehair is frequently used in the weft. Traditionally they were made from sheep or goat wool from the tribes' own herds, while modern Baloch carpets usually have a cotton warp.

The carpets, due to their tribal origin, are generally smaller and are woven on horizontal looms with vivid, geometric patterns. Curvilinear tree-of-life patterns as well as prayer carpets with a prayer niche are typical and sought-after specimens. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds often contrast with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baloch carpets are relatively thin, but tightly woven, which makes them soft and flexible.
