The Baluchi people are a nomadic ethnic group from the region of Baluchistan, a district bordering Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Baluchi carpets can be made on a cotton or wool foundation, and goat or horsehair is often used in the weft. Traditionally they were made from sheep or goat wool from the tribes' own herds, while modern Baluchi carpets mostly have a cotton warp.

Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are generally smaller and are woven on horizontal looms with vibrant geometric patterns. Curvilinear Tree of Life patterns as well as prayer rugs with a prayer niche are typical and sought-after examples. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds often contrast with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluchi carpets are relatively thin but tightly woven, which makes them soft and flexible.
