Description from the seller
Rare original Pétainist propaganda poster, published in 1951 by the Imprimerie spéciale d'Aspects de la France, 10 rue Croix-des-Petits-Champs, Paris 1er, on the eve of the death of Marshal Philippe Pétain (July 23, 1951).
Colored illustrated poster, organized into four chronological panels accompanying a central portrait of the Marshal in uniform:
1916 – Pétain in command at Verdun ("Courage… we will get them!")
1940 – His call for armistice presented as a sacrifice for France
1945 – His imprisonment on the Île d'Yeu, presented as a martyr
1951 – His death and the popular tribute under the Arc de Triomphe
The central quotation: "I give to France the gift of my person" summarizes the poster's ideological stance: the rehabilitation of a man presented as a sacrificed hero.
Historical interest:
An authentic document of the postwar Pétainist movement, published by Aspects de la France, a royalist and nationalist newspaper inheriting from Action Française. Direct testimony of the Vichy revisionist current of the 1950s, which sought to rehabilitate the memory of the Marshal immediately after his death.
Format: 38 x 30 cm
Good overall condition, colors well preserved, with slight tears
