Description from the seller
ACHILLE CASTIGLIONI
Edited by Paolo Ferrari
Introduction by Vittorio Gregotti
Important monographic volume published on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to Achille Castiglioni, for which the following firms have joined together in the consortium “Mostra itinerante Achille Castiglioni”: Abet Laminati, Alessi, BBB Bonacina, Brion Vega, Danese, Driade, Flos, Ideal Standard, Kartell, Marcatré, Zanotta.
One of the most significant experiences of contemporary design is revisited with the perspective of a professional biography. Achille Castiglioni’s activity spans about the last five decades: thus, in the introduction, Vittorio Gregotti proposes a rereading by relating it to the cultural climates of project design from around 1940 to 1980.
What is traced in Paolo Ferrari’s text is instead a precise profile focused mainly on Castiglioni’s design model, obtained by gathering a vast anthology of his industrial design realizations. There we find the “minimal form” expressed by objects curved around their essence; with “redesign” we face processes of formal valorization; with the “readymade” the designer’s curiosity manifests itself through producing something new from what already exists.
With ample iconography, each chapter signals a professional quality and a formal choice accompanied by descriptions of exhibition projects: another crucial node in Castiglioni’s design approach, as demonstrated by the Vienna exhibition, which presents itself as the self-representation of a design career returned as a grand game.
