Description from the seller
High-End Cabinet.
Very elegant piece of furniture.
Circa 1750, a handsome model: simple curved lower cabinet and a splendid double-curved crown.
Top quality cabinetmaker’s work.
Also see the lighter inlays set between the walnut burl.
Notably, the expertly carved ornament in the center of the crown stands out: a floral fan shape.
Throughout there are small examples of artistically carved ornaments; see the detail photos.
Under four large drawers, with an interior made of quarter-sawn oak.
The style is pure French, Louis XV, perhaps made by English cabinetmakers who moved to The Hague to practice their craft there.
That lock you see in detail is a consequence of that; these cabinetmakers imported locks and hardware from England.
This is because the Industrial Revolution had already begun there and they were technically ahead.
It is also interesting that these cabinetmakers came to the Netherlands: economically, the entire wealthy class kept their money there, so there was a market too small for all those skilled cabinetmakers.
The English had a zero-sum economic model.
The large social disparities stifled the flow of money to society, to the population.
We see this model echoed again in the Atlantic world.
And it is inherent to it.
I ship only to EU member states.
Buyers from other countries must arrange their own transport.
That can be done via UPS, GLS, FedEx and DHL.
Catawiki has a carrier called Brenger.
I can advise you.
