Roman Republic. L. Iulius Caesar, 103 BC. Denarius Rome

The extremely rare and scarce Lucius Julius Caesar, Comment: FIRST DENARUS ON WHICH THE NAME CAESAR APPEARS CRAWFORD: 320/1 LUCIUS JULIUS CAESAR Gens: Julia Minstrel: Lucius Julius Caesar Year and Mint: 103 BC - Rome Obverse: Bust of Mars, left, helmet with long crest and plume on each side. Dotted border. Legend: CAESAR Symbols: Obverse above, Control mark | Reverse above, Control mark | Reverse below, Lyre Reverse: Venus in a Cupid's chariot, left, holding a scepter in her right hand and reins in her left. Dotted border. Legend: L IVLI L F The denarius of Lucius Julius Caesar was minted in Rome in 103 BC by a member of the gens Julia, one of the oldest and most prestigious families of the Republic. This moneyer was the uncle of Mark Antony, as the triumvir's mother, Julia, was his sister, and also a direct ancestor of the future dictator Gaius Julius Caesar.
