Table lamp by MAI - Paris, circa 1950s, with a pink anodized aluminium cone and a golden anodized base, dimensions 12 × 16 × 18 cm, 350 g, one fitting, in working order, in good condition with light signs of age.
Description from the seller
Beautiful Table Lamp made by MAI - Paris, almost certainly inspired by the lamps of E. Sottsass that he produced for Rinnovel in the early 1950s.
The MAI - Manufacture d'Appareils d'Illumination and/or Maison Art et Industrie - active in France from the late 1940s to the early 1950s, was specialized in luxury lighting.
The cone is in pink-gold anodized aluminum with the base, also anodized aluminum in a golden color.
The condition, for a piece of about 70 years, is good. Small signs of wear, some scratches and small blemishes, together with an original patina, only serve to enhance its charisma.
The cord seems to be original, although it was often replaced due to wear (70 years!!!) and contemporaneous spare parts did not exist. This, however, does not compromise the enjoyment of the object in all its simplicity, typical of Sottsass.
A very particular feature for the era is the main switch. It is not a simple switch but a small potentiometer that can regulate the light, as shown in the photos.
Material: Electrolytically treated aluminum. The pink color is typical of the 1950s palette.
Function: It was conceived as an ambiance lamp. They were often placed in the corners of furniture or near televisions to increase contrast and create atmosphere.
The last photo, made with AI, is only to show proportions and the setting.
