Mask - Dogon - Mali (No reserve price)

Here for sale is a wonderfully carved wooden Dogon monkey funery mask. The mask appears to depict a carved long faced monkey, possibly a Baboon perched on top of a monkey faced mask and is typical in its depiction of a funery mask. The Baboon is seated and has been well carved with the facial features being sharply defined and the monkey's tail trailing along the back of the mask with the mask being typical in its depiction of a monkey funery mask. The mask is coated in a dry crust which is a typical feature among Dogon artifacts that have been used in a tribal ceremony/ceremonies and there are several holes present on the mask for where twine would be used to secure the mask to the wearers face.

The dimensions of the statue are: H: 65 CM, W: 14.5 CM, D: 17 CM.

The piece does show signs of it's age(please see photos for further information).

This comes from a private collection and is a must have for any collector of African and tribal art.
