Savonarola folding chair in walnut wood, Italian Mid-Century Modern design from Tuscany, dating to the mid-20th century, 90 cm high, 60 cm wide, 45 cm deep, one piece, weight 8 g, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.
Made in the mid-20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, closing like a book and made up of serpentine curved elements and crisscrossed in an X. The backrest depicts the lily, Florentine symbol, while it is surrounded by floral decorations.
The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose time the chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.
In generally good condition, normal signs of wear and aging (see photo). The chair has recently been restored with anti-woodworm treatment and wax for wood treatment. Dimensions: 90 cm height x 60 cm length.
