AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1880, 19x25 cm.
"The Dance of the Almées", a very beautiful portrait of two almées (Arab dancers) from the late nineteenth century (Algeria), by Alexandre Leroux.
Very fine era collotype in very good condition, mounted on thick paper support.
Excellent preservation of contrasts, gray tones, and levels of detail.
Hand-labeled in the negative.

Based in Algiers, Alexandre Leroux produced numerous studio photographs and local “types,” depicting men and women in traditional costumes in the late nineteenth century. These images, often accompanied by captions such as “Moorish,” “Arab,” “City costume,” or “Type of Algerian woman,” are numbered and circulated as prints or albums intended for European travelers.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral-pH cardboard support (ideal for a collection in good condition).
