Description from the seller
Very fine Mosasaurus jaw from Morocco with roots and part of the jawbone, bone partially restored; the natural bone porosity can still be observed. Found in the phosphate deposits of Khouribga.
This Cretaceous animal was one of the largest marine predators.
Mosasaurus was one of the last mosasaurs, as well as one of the largest.
Like most mosasaurs, the limbs had evolved into short but efficient flippers, with the front flippers larger than the rear ones.
The largest known species, M. hoffmannii, could reach a length of 17–18 meters (56 feet), slightly longer than its closest relatives Tylosaurus and Hainosaurus.
Moreover, Mosasaurus was also the stoutest among mosasaurs, reaching a considerable weight of 25–30 tons in the more developed specimens, especially the skull with a jaw closely linked to the skull.
The body was long, thick, and barrel-shaped.
The eyes were relatively large, but provided limited binocular vision, and the olfactory bulbs were poorly developed; therefore experts believe that Mosasaurus lived near the surface.
