Rack - Wrought iron - Archelle (kitchen shelf)

A beautiful example of French wrought-iron work from the 18th/19th century. Originating from Northern France; this "Archelle" (kitchen rack) with an arched shape and eight hooks would have hung close to the hearth in the kitchen, from which cups, carving forks, spoons, and so on were suspended.

The detailing in the wrought iron is excellent and must have been crafted by a very skilled blacksmith of the time. A lovely, rustic decoration.

Condition in keeping with its age and use. Some surface rust present.
